One small click for our Commander in Chief, one giant leap for digital democracy: President Barack Obama took an unprecedented step in digital government by hosting the first ever virtual town hall from the White House last week.

The American public was encouraged to submit questions on the White House website and then vote to help select which would be addressed in the one hour virtual meeting. According to the White House website, 92,937 people submitted 103,996 questions and cast 3,603,622 votes.

People are not only applauding our President for this effort to increase transparency and accountability in government, but also for taking advantage of all that broadband-fueled new media enables, including directly connecting our nation’s leaders with their constituents and personalizing our government.
