Broadband numbers still rising strongly
Well, it’s no surprise to those who keep an eye on the news that the latest FCC report shows outstanding growth in broadband over the past year. Nothing could show more clearly that the FCC’s consumer-driven policies are paying dividends.
Just a few tidbits:
- The total number of new high-speed lines (200 kbps in at least one direction) increased by 61% from 51.2 million at the end of 2005, to 82.5 million at the end of 2006.
- Broadband providers added twice as many new high-speed lines 2006 (31.3 million new lines) compared to 2005 (13.8 million new lines).
- In 2006, advanced services lines (200 kbps in both directions) increased 36% from 43.9 million to 59.5 million.
- Exponential growth in the mobile wireless broadband market with 18.5 million new customers.

Growth in broadband brings so many benefits to Americans. I was interested to read the report you blogged about. I hope net neutrality proponents read this report!
