For some time now, we have explained why broadband usage statistics published by the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development are a highly flawed measure for the state of broadband in the United States. The OECD numbers purport to show the United States, which in fact has the largest and one of the most robust broadband networks in the world, falling behind countries such as Denmark and Luxembourg. It just isn’t so.
New reports are putting the U.S. broadband market in a more accurate light, and there’s plenty of good news to report. So, we’re launching this special section of NextGenWeb to set the record straight.
Certainly, there’s more to be done in expanding broadband access to all Americans. But what has been accomplished to date is simply amazing. Calling the U.S.-based broadband network “world class” is really the best way to describe it.
