The most recent FCC workshop covered how broadband is transforming the way people search for jobs, have access to job opportunities, acquire job training, and pursue further education. Yes, job hunting in the 21st century may still require having the right connections, but it’s more likely to be a broadband connection that you need to take advantage of the Internet’s vast resources. Social networking sites such as LinkedIn and Facebook mean that a potential connection for a job interview could be just a click away. Job search sites like CareerBuilder.com and Monster.com are streamlining the hiring process by matching the right opportunities with one’s skill set.
Whether it’s taking online courses to finish up that elusive degree or participating in online job training to help you grow your business and better market your products, the resources available through broadband are limitless.
Over the past decade, the Internet has created 1.2 million jobs–many paying higher than average salaries. America’s broadband networks are also helping people find those jobs more efficiently and successfully. When I was first starting out, I remember my parents telling me that “looking for a job is a full-time job;” good advice, but at least with broadband maybe you won’t have to work overtime finding the right opportunity.
