Verizon Investment Victories in 2009

What do we want in a broadband network?  Reliability, expansiveness, speed, performance, and more.  What does that take?  Investment. Fortunately, our telecommunications companies are providing just that.  Private investment is what drives broadband maintenance and growth, and ultimately delivers the connectivity necessary for today’s (and tomorrow’s) bandwidth heavy applications to succeed.

Here are just some of the achievements that Verizon recently circulated on their investment successes in 2009.

  • FiOS Internet, which rides on Verizon’s all-fiber network, won a Readers Choice Award from PCMag.com, for the fourth consecutive year.
  • Verizon successfully field-tested a passive optical network system known as XG-PON that can transmit data at 10 gigabits per second (Gbps) downstream and 2.4 Gbps upstream, 4x as fast as the current top transmission speeds.
  • Now at the five year mark, Verizon’s unique fiber-to-the-premises network currently passes 14.5 million homes in 16 states and is poised to reach a targeted 15 million premises by year end.

Of course, you should check out the release in its entirety to see more, including their investments internationally and in the wireless industry.
