Social Media Influencers and Novices Unite for Latinos in Social Media Conference

NextGenWeb is proud to be one of the sponsors of Latinos in Social Media (LatiSM). The Washington, DC, LatiSM conference took place over the weekend at the National Council of La Raza’s headquarters and drew attendees from Latino organizations, communications corporations and even government agencies like the FCC.  The conference is dedicated to empowering members of the Latino community through social media.  The full day of programming touched everyone by encompassing diverse goals, interests and levels of expertise.   Here are just a few of the sessions:

  • Social Media 101
  • Gov 2.0
  • Social Media Management
  • Brand Building
  • The Mobile Opportunity
  • Yoga for Techies

The session on Applied Tactics of Social Media was one of my favorite sessions.  Yes, I’m biased because I spoke at that particular session, but the real reason it was my favorite?  AT&T donated several laptops so that people who learned about social media in theory in the previous sessions could now experiment and participate, hands-on.  When was the last time you saw that at a conference?

It was so great to watch members of the Latino community sign up for Google Alerts, set up Twitter accounts and join Facebook.  I, and the many others at the LatiSM conference, look forward to continuing the dialogue with them in their newly embraced, broadband-enabled forms of communication.
