We’re back with more from the Center for Connected Health’s Symposium being held at the Harvard Medical Center in Boston. Not surprisingly, wireless and mobile devices are a big part of the connected health conversation. The explosion in wireless broadband technologies has been felt by many industries — and it’s playing a huge role in the delivery of vital health care services.
We just covered a panel that discussed the many ways mobile technologies are being utilized to improve health care delivery. Several interesting examples were given, including the ability to monitor your glucose level with your mobile device or keep track of your caloric intake on the go with Virtual Dietitian.
Mobile devices powered by broadband deliver a whole new world of options in health care delivery. Imagine this — you’re on vacation and you become ill. You want to go to a doctor but you know how frustrating it can be to get your medical records transferred from your primary care physician. Now imagine having that record on your mobile device that you can hand to any doctor wherever you are. Then imagine the doctor putting your prescription on the same device that a pharmacy can use to fill the medications you need to get your vacation back on track. This my friends is the power of broadband.
All over the country, Americans are realizing how mobile broadband technology can make their life better. What people sometimes don’t realize is the life-enhancing applications we’re talking about are made possible by the robust broadband networks being deployed by America’s broadband providers. Those same providers invested $30 billion in the first half of this year alone to ensure America’s communications infrastructure is capable of handling the continued advancement in connected health technology.
Instant communication and information sharing right on your handheld device. Now that’s real time health care delivery.
