For one of the final sessions of the policy track at CES, FCC Commissioners Meredith Atwell Baker, Mignon Clyburn, and Robert McDowell spoke candidly to a packed room about their priorities at the FCC. Kim Hart, reporter for Hillicon Valley, moderated the discussion, which covered many of today’s most pressing technology policy issues like competition, spectrum, content pricing, net neutrality, and more.
The tone was extremely collegiate and at times even humorous. As Clyburn explained, 90% of FCC votes are unanimous and although there are points of disagreement, the Commissioners do fundamentally agree on the vision. Baker and McDowell agreed that the Internet is working well without regulatory intervention from the FCC, but again, all parties agree on an open Internet. And all parties alluded to following the lead of the Chairman, Julius Genachowski, when it comes to approaching issues like net neutrality and the broadband plan.
NextGenWeb caught up with moderator Kim Hart immediately following the panel. Watch the video below for her takeaways from the discussion and trends she was seeing come out of CES overall.
