An Accessible Web for All

As more and more of our society moves towards more web-based information and services, it is critical that those with disabilities are not left behind.  Thanks to the work of John F. Croston III, DC area web developers can learn the tricks and tools to help build a more accessible web experience.  Croston is not only the Web Content Accessibility Manager at ARMY.MIL, but he also frequently blogs about the topic of web accessibility and produces a monthly meet-up called Accessibility DC.

Today, February 16th, this month’s Accessibility DC meeting will feature accessibility specialist Eric Wright discussing and demoing how to navigate the Web hands-free on a PC.  He will showcase speech computing software including Dragon NaturallySpeaking, KnowBrainer, and Windows Speech Recognition. He will talk about what elements are important for ensuring speech-accessible HTML, and show some basic HTML tags that will help people talk to your Website.

You can RSVP to attend this month’s Accessibility Meet-up here and visit http://accessibilitydc.org for future events or to suggest future topics.
