Women Entrepreneurs Unite on WomenGrowBusiness.com

Once a quiet minority in the workplace, women are now a vocal and growing presence in the upper ranks of the business world. Consider the following statistics from the Center for Women’s Business Research:

• 10.1 million firms are owned by women, employing more than 13 million people and generating $1.9 trillion in sales as of 2008.
• Women-owned firms account for 40% of all privately held firms.
• 1.9 million U.S. firms are majority-owned by women of color
• Women business owners are as likely as their male counterparts to adopt new technology and more likely (24% vs. 18%) than women in general.

Enter a new resource for women entrepreneurs: WomenGrowBusiness.com. The site was created thanks to the vision of Shashi Bellamkonda, the Social Media Swami of domain name company Network Solutions. Shashi tapped social media consultant Jill Foster to be editor of the site, which publishes the business experiences of regular contributors, including yours truly, and featured guests.

It’s about how women make their business succeed. Topics include leadership, marketing, operations (especially in tough economic times), benefits of social cause partnership, talent retention, online presence, entrepreneurship, social technology, mentorship, failure, and success.

Like most collaborative blogs, contributors share their stories and unique points of view. But what makes the site most valuable are the “takeaways” that authors compile. These are typically lessons learned or places to go for further information. This extra step really escalates the site from blog to online resource!

Check out WomenGrowBusiness.com, and let me know what you think! And, if you’re a woman with a business experience to share, please contact Editor Jill Foster.
