It’s hard to imagine a sector that is not impacted by the proliferation of online social media tools. Even the Department of Defense is not immune. Pursuant to President Obama’s “Transparency and Open Government” directive, DoD is seeking public input on their utilization of the Web 2.0 space.
Noel Dickover, a co-founder of CrisisCamp and DoD consultant, is spearheading The Department of Defense Web 2.0 Guidance Forum with the support of Tamie Lyles-Santiago, Office of the DoD CIO. The online forum provides an opportunity for the public to engage, participate and collaborate on key issues including:
• Scope of Web 2.0 and near-future direction and impacts
• Uses of Web 2.0 by military families and friends
• How Social Networking Services and other commercial Web 2.0 offerings could be used by DoD?
• Uses of Web 2.0 for government-industry connectivity and innovation
Organizers would like most to hear from their core stakeholders: service members (especially those who use social media), military families, veterans, Web 2.0 experts and others in the defense and technology communities. The Forum, of course, also is open to the public at large. What advice would you share?
