USTelecom’s McCormick Discusses Consumer Benefits From a Broadband World

Yesterday in a speech at the Clinton School of Public Service, USTelecom CEO Walter McCormick talked about the amazing possibilities that a broadband world can deliver to consumers. “Broadband can bring its opportunities into any community… We can bring together bright, curious minds with talented teachers based on their interests and expertise, rather than their zip code… Loved ones with health conditions can get the care they need from the comfort of home with in-home health monitoring—brought to you by broadband,” he said in his remarks in Little Rock.

McCormick was joined by Michael Manley, a representative from the Arkansas e-health program, ANGELS (Antenatal and Neonatal Guidelines, Education and Learning System). This is one of those innovative e-health programs we’re always talking about – this one connects physicians and patients, particularly in rural areas, with medical specialists across the state.

Another great showcase for what broadband can bring. You can see Walter on the local ABC affiliate below:

When Walter McCormick is talking about “investment” in the broadband infrastructure being the key to states like Arkansas bridging the digital divide, who is responsible for making those investments? If it’s telecom companies, what’s stopping them from making these investments already? Or is he referring to state and federal investment in said infrastructure?

Here is info on the founding of Connect-Arkansas cited in the piece. I’m assuming this will involve investments of both the state and broadband providers tho it’s unclear from their website
