DC’s booming technology community and notoriously level-headed government community came together for two days to discuss and promote the movement towards Government 2.0, the concept of using technology to make the government more efficient, transparent, and generally improve democracy.
Much of the conference broke up the hundreds of attendees into smaller focus groups where people could delve deeper into niche issues, like cloud computing via SMS or using public APIs. Don’t worry if you missed a session! Notes and presentation slides are being compiled on the conference wiki.
Day One of the conference also featured the US premier of Us Now, a documentary film produced in England about the power of mass collaboration, government and the Internet. The film will be available for download in April and is certain to help the public understand many of the high level concepts that were discussed over the weekend.
The stars of Day Two were Bev Godwin, Director of USA.gov, and Macon Phillips, an instrumental figure in the use of technology in Obama’s presidential campaign and now on the White House new media team. The two used their session to encourage feedback from the audience on what they could be doing to improve their efforts from within the government.
