Equalizing Access to Knowledge

 

The broadband-powered distance learning movement is sparking an educational revolution with global consequences. In a Dec. 29 article that references an MIT initiative called “OpenCourseWare,” Associated Press reporter Justin Pope looks at the way universities all over the world are throwing open their classrooms to distance learners. Pope sums it up in “Internet Opens Elite Colleges to All”:

There has never been a more exciting time for the intellectually curious. The world’s top universities have come late to the world of online education, but they’re arriving at last, creating an all-you-can eat online buffet of information. And mostly, they are giving it away.

    Why don’t we hear our politicians talking more about how technology like broadband can improve issues like education? I’m so tired of hearing the same b.s. every two or four years w/o any real solutions. It seems to me technology is more of a friend than a foe. They should TAKE NOTE!!!!!!
