Wow. Clean sheet, new blog. Where to start? I guess I’ll start with the obvious - who am I, and why am I doing a blog?
First part is easy: I’m Portia Krebs. I’ve worked in public policy for years. Up front. I currently work at USTelecom and am immersed in the intersection between communications, entertainment and technology. It is a fascinating intersection — fast-paced, with new things happening almost every day. Think of all of the new gadgets and services we have that we never dreamed of just a year ago. Oh, and one other thing — I’m big college football fan, so if the postings tail off this fall, well €¦
So why am I doing this blog? That’s easy, too. We all know what cool things the Internet has done for all of us — think what life was like before it! And, because of my work, I can only imagine what a bigger, faster Internet can bring us. A cleaner world €¦ less driving (yes!) and fewer rush hours (Yes!) €¦ Being able to talk to my doctor on line, or have my grandmother’s health be monitored on line. Downloading music and movies… faster.
I know what you’re thinking — How can you have a dialogue with someone who works in telecom? No doubt about it — I am going to express my point of view. I am here to promote an innovative Internet and defeat public policy that will interfere with that promise through misguided government regulation. But, it’s time for an honest debate. I want to bring you real stories €¦ about real people. And, I want to invite guests in as well. And I want this to be a plain-language place where you can find the latest information on what is happening in public policy and in studies that emphasize the Internet’s future and all that brings with it.
Thanks for taking a look. Thanks for being open to a new approach. Thanks for the candor to come. If you’re excited about the future of the Internet and anxious to get the tools to help ensure the government doesn’t begin the first ever regulation of the Internet, then stay tuned!

Portia,
Welcome to the blogosphere!
We need more voices like yours promoting a free market Internet and opposing net regulation.
Don’t be afraid to take the pro-net regulation crowd on, they have surprisingly little substance to back up their point of view.
Behind the appealing facade of the net neutrality slogan, there is no there there.
I like to call it a “Seinfeldian” issue: its about nothing!

I stumbled across your website because I read an article recently in my local paper about net neutrality that really hacked me off. In a Google search, I found something called net competition blog and they were blogging about you. (I thought you might want to know so you could link back to those folks, too) At any rate it is weird to me that there are sooo many people who want net neutrality, something I had never even heard of until this story the other day.

I’m looking forward to your blog. We need to promote an open internet accross our Nation. There are so many important applications already here and many more to come in the future. I am a proud member of the Communications Workers Of America. Take a look at our website: http://www.speedmatters.org and see what you think about our position. Our Union brothers and sisters are working hard to make things like Telemedicine, Distance Education and Civic Participation a reality for all Americans.
